About CPIC Life
CPIC Life is the former name of the company now known as Blue Shield of California Life and Health Insurance Company. CPIC Life was originally founded in 1939, and has been providing healthcare and life insurance to Californians ever since. The parent company of Blue Shield of California Life and Health is California Physicians' Service, Inc. As of November 2005, Blue Shield of California's provider network consisted of over 29,000 primary care physicians (PCPs) and specialists within HMOs, as well as over 61,000 providers through PPOs. Additionally, in November 2005, its hospital network consisted of 279 HMOs and 344 PPOs.
CPIC Plans
CPIC, or Blue Shield of California, offers a broad range of individual and group health insurance plans as well as life insurance. Among the available options are individual short-term health insurance and student's plans, as well as family and group plans. As part of the Blue Shield organization, insured members can receive treatment anywhere in the country. In addition, members have the option of choosing from the large number of physicians associated with Blue Shield nationally.
The company also offers ""Medigap"" plans that are designed to provide medical insurance over and above what is provided by Medicare itself. These services include annual physical exams, routine eye care and hearing aids, as well as drug supplemental plans. A range of different options is available within the Medigap plans, allowing them to be structured to meet individual requirements.
CPIC Headquarters
Now Blue Shield of California, CPIC Life is headquartered in San Francisco, and has over 20 offices throughout the state. The company employs 4,500 people. Last year alone, it had revenues in the range of $7.5 billion. CPIC Life is the state's third largest healthcare provider, with a total membership of almost 3.5 million people.
