Medica has been in operation since 1976 as a health insurance provider for the upper-Midwest region and adjoining counties of Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota. In Medica's home state of Minnesota, the company is the largest PPO and HMO provider, as well as the leading non-profit and independent provider of health plans. Medica's Medicaid HMO and Medica Commercial Plans currently have the highest accreditation status of “Excellent” from The National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA).
Medica Plans
With 27,000 providers throughout its network, Medica currently provides a wide variety of health insurance products to more than 1.25 million members, including businesses, government employees, labor unions, and individuals throughout the Upper Midwestern Region. Medica's broad product portfolio includes the following fully insured products: Medica Choice, Medica Elect, Medica Premier, Medica SelectCare, and Medica Dental Choice. Medica health plans are available to 98 percent of Minnesota residents. The list below will highlight just a few popular Medica programs:
- Medica Choice for employer's features open access networks and value-added services such as health club discounts and disease management services. Medica Choice plans cover emergency and global emergency care, preventative check-ups, and prescriptions. There are no claim forms to fill out. Members may choose their own hospital or doctor, with referral-free access to in-network care.
- Medica Prime Solution is the company's most popular Medicare Supplement, featuring basic and enhanced plans. The basic plan features a low monthly premium and copays, while the enhanced plan features a higher monthly premium with first dollar coverage. With all Medica Prime Solution Plans, there are no fees for visits to most network specialists. Potential members with pre-existing conditions will not be refused coverage and in addition to all Medicare benefits, the plan offers coverage for visual exams, annual hearing exams and routine physicals. Other benefits include coverage for inpatient, outpatient, and preventative care.
- Medica Direct HSA for Individuals is an affordable and flexible plan with a variety of coverage options, costs, and deductible amounts. The plan features open access networks, and the option to choose a high deductible, which reduces premium costs. Cost savings are deposited into the member HSA account, and members have access to online account management tools for managing their accounts. Other highlights include a lifetime maximum per person, coverage for office visits for physicals, sickness and injury, x-ray and lab services, and emergency room care. The plan offers up to $25,000 per year for home healthcare, as well as coverage for prenatal care and formulary prescription drugs.
