Oxford Benefit Management falls under the Oxford Health umbrella and, in 2004, the company merged with UnitedHealthcare. Oxford Health Plans does not provide family or individual health insurance, with the exception of Medicare supplemental policies.
Oxford Health Plans
As a managed care company, Oxford has earned a reputation for quality, flexibility, and consumer satisfaction. Health offerings range from health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to preferred provider organizations (PPOs) to Medigap insurance. Standard in-network benefits include non-referred OB/GYN access, fitness incentives and reimbursements, alternative medical visits, and low prescription co-payments.
- Freedom and Liberty plans -- The backbone of Oxford's HMO network, these are less-flexible programs along with HMO Laurel (offered in Connecticut only) that provide: in-network services only, required co-payments, and primary-physician referral to specialists (excluding OB/GYN). The Select/Freedom and Select/Liberty plans are more flexible. No referral is needed for specialist care. In Connecticut, it is not necessary to sign up with a primary care doctor. In addition, consumers can take advantage of “Freedom Plan Access” and “Liberty Plan Access.” These allow an even greater range of health care opportunities. Benefits include no referral needed for in-network specialists, option for out-of-network care, and multi-prescription drug availability.
- Oxford Consumer Options Suite -- An option that allows employees to choose and customize individual plans to suit their needs. These fall into three Freedom categories: Access, Direct, and Classic. This provides fixed-fee benefits for an employer while giving employees a broad-based selection at different pricing levels.
- Oxford USA Program -- For large employers with multiple operations outside of the network, the program allows coverage for all employees, regardless of their location through a nationwide affiliation with First Health Group Corporation. As part of Oxford USA enrollment, members outside the core benefit area still receive guaranteed quality service and seamless transactions including the coast-to-coast provider network through brokers and the Oxford Web site.
- Supplemental Insurance for Medicare -- These plans include Oxford Medicare Advantage Essential, Oxford Medicare Advantage Signature, Oxford Medicare Advantage Balance, Oxford Medicare Advantage Mosaic, and Oxford Medicare Advantage Select. While the Medicare supplemental plans are not available in all of the core areas, they do provide varying levels of coverage that are directly suited to member needs.
- Medicare -- Oxford's Medicare policies carry the basic benefits that are required by law. In addition, with the exception of the Essential level, these plans include Medicare Prescription Drug (Part D) coverage at no extra charge. All plans include dental and foot care, as well as free membership at fitness facilities.
- The Healthy Bonus Program -- A program that features discounts and savings on senior-related products such as therapeutic equipment, health books and videos, and diabetic items. The goal is to promote healthy living and active preventative care. These benefits are in addition to Medicare coverage.
Not all plans or benefits are available in all states covered by Oxford Health Plans.
